Navaratri

Navaratri, a nine-night Hindu festival, celebrates the nine forms of the goddess Durga, a powerful feminine deity who embodies courage, strength and protection. It unfolds during the lunar month of Ashwin, which typically aligns with the Gregorian calendar months of September or October – this year, starting October 3rd. The festival is marked by elaborate rituals, vibrant dance performances, and devotional music.


Navaratri celebrations sparkle around the globe, in many countries home to Indian diaspora, including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and others. Festivities usually involve traditional music, dance, religious ceremonies, and events that unite people in honour of the festival’s significance – maintaining cultural and religious connections. The culmination of Navaratri is celebrated as Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, which signifies the triumph of good over evil.
