International Stammering Awareness Day
International Stammering Awareness Day
Every 22nd October, International Stammering Awareness Day pops up to shine a light on a condition that touches 1% of people worldwide. Stammering (AKA stuttering) isn’t just about struggling to get words out; it’s about the frustration of having so much to say and facing hurdles in saying it. This day is all about spreading the word and understanding what it’s really like to live with stammering.
If you stammer, life can feel like an obstacle course. Day-to-day situations that fluent speakers take for granted can be very tricky. There’s a lot of stigma too, leading to bullying and social exclusion. This can leave deep scars, affecting everything from self-esteem to career choices and social interactions. So, you see, it’s really important that we acknowledge today to help build a world where everyone feels heard and accepted, stammer or no stammer.
