Laylatul Bara`ah
Laylatul Bara`ah
Lailat ul Bara’h, also known as the Night of Forgiveness, is a time for deep introspection and spiritual reflection. Observed on the 15th night of Shabaan, it falls two weeks before Ramadan each year, with its date shifting in the Gregorian calendar. This night is dedicated to seeking forgiveness and contemplating one’s destiny for the year ahead. The name “Lailat ul Bara’h” comes from the Arabic words ‘layltun’ (night) and ‘baraat’ (forgiveness), and it is also known as Shab E Barat in Persian and Urdu. It’s a powerful opportunity to reflect, seek peace, and renew spiritual commitments.
During this time, people pour their hearts into prayer for Allah’s mercy, both at the mosque and at home. Along with these deep moments, it’s pretty common to give to charity. In some places, they even light up the sky with fireworks, turning the night into a celebration of hope and starting anew on this night of forgiveness and getting back on track spiritually.
