National Coming Out Day
National Coming Out Day
National Coming Out Day (NCOD) every 11th October, is a day for the LGBTQ+ community. It marks the act of “coming out,” where people openly share their sexual orientation or gender identity with friends, family, and others. It champions authenticity and acceptance, highlighting that LGBTQ+ individuals are here in all walks of life. It encourages them to embrace their true selves, and support others doing the same.
This isn’t about pressuring LGBTQ+ folks to reveal their identities or shaming those who haven’t. Instead, it celebrates the beauty and importance of being true to yourself. While coming out can be liberating, it often presents challenges, and can demand courage. It’s not a single event but a continuous journey of self-discovery. Today honours that. It reinforces the idea that coming out, though just one part of the journey, is a huge step towards embracing authenticity.
