Spirit Day
Spirit Day
Spirit Day, is observed on the third Thursday of October each year. It’s one of the most prominent anti-bullying campaigns out there, specifically uplifting LGBTQ+ youth – especially transgender and nonbinary people. Spearheaded by GLAAD, it’s a day when everyone from celebs to big companies and even landmarks, all band together to light up the world in purple. This is all about showing these young people that they can be their true selves and that they’re seen and supported.
Despite increasing acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals, anti-LGBTQ discrimination and bullying is still rife, especially online. In an era marked by widespread hostility—from book bans to restrictions on drag performances, LGBTQ+ history education, and healthcare access— younger generations face unprecedented challenges. Today’s a chance for them and their allies to champion a future led by acceptance and support.
