St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day
Don your greenest garbs – St. Patrick’s Day is here! Every March 17th signals a lively ol’ knees-up in celebration of the life and legacy of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Expect emerald-hued parades, traditional music, and a hearty dose of Irish food and… er, drinks (hic!).
Fun fact: The first St. Patrick’s Day parade was actually in Boston, Massachusetts in 1737, thanks to a gathering of Irish immigrants. Fast forward, and the tradition has gone global, with over 70 million people celebrating their Irish roots. From grand parades in New York and Buenos Aires, to Oslo’s cultural Fringe Festival and more intimate pub gatherings, St. Patrick’s Day unites the world. It’s even a public holiday on the island of Montserrat! And did you know, beyond St. Pat’s Day, March also welcomes ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge,’ a two-week festival dedicated to the Irish language, which actually culminates today!
