Good Friday
Good Friday
Good Friday is celebrated on the Friday before Easter Sunday in the Christian calendar. It’s a big day for Christians across the world who unite in remembrance of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This is a time for reflection, marked by church services, scripture readings, and prayer. Oh, and it’s also honoured with fasting and penance – traditional customs, symbolising Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. The date varies each year but typically falls in March or April and is a public holiday in the UK, some European countries, Australia and some US states.
Part of the festival of Easter, Christians worldwide celebrate Good Friday uniquely, influenced by their culture and tradition. Practices range from solemn church services, fasting, and art/music displays to reenactments, charitable acts, and silent reflection. These practices are united by themes of self-sacrifice, morality, forgiveness and redemption.
