International Day of Older Persons
International Day of Older Persons
Every year on October 1st, itβs time to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons, a tradition dating back to 1990. This day is dedicated to boosting awareness about the unique challenges and opportunities that older people, their families, and caregivers face. It’s a day to appreciate and reciprocate the lifelong contributions of our senior citizens, and re-dedicate our efforts to ensure their wellbeing.β¨
Weβre lucky to have elderly people in our lives, be it in our families, friendship groups, or communities. Theyβre often fountains of wisdom, storytellers and can lend an experienced ear in times of crisis. With people living (and working) longer, itβs more important than ever to recognise and support our elders. Sadly, we too often forget – or worse still, ignore – them. And thatβs one of many reasons why this is such an important date to celebrate.β¨
