While often referred to as ‘Chinese New Year’ or ‘Spring Festival (春节), Lunar New Year embraces a variety of customs across many Asian countries, each with their own unique cultural flavours and traditions. In China, celebrations include dragon and lion dances, firecrackers, and giving red envelopes filled with money to children. In Korea, people wear traditional attire and children receive blessings and gifts. Vietnamese families visit temples to pray for good fortune, while enjoying dishes like pickled scallions and candied fruits. In the Philippines, locals often wear polka dots, symbolising prosperity and good luck.
