Tourette’s Awareness Month
Tourette’s Awareness Month
Tourette’s Awareness Month, every 15th May to 15th June, is an annual date, focusing on the experiences of those living with Tourette’s syndrome (TS), a neurodivergent condition that causes people to make uncontrollable movements and sounds. It affects over 300,000 people in the UK alone, but it’s wildly misunderstood. So today is about demonstrating that TS is so much more than meets the eye.
While many have heard of TS, there’s a lack of genuine understanding. It’s often viewed as comedic and rare. And there’s a misconception that shouting swear words is a defining feature (not true, by the way). This stems from the fact that there’s just not enough public awareness, or portrayals of the real experiences of those living with it. Whether it’s putting a poster up at work or sharing on socials, there are tons of ways to spread awareness.
