World Hijab Day
World Hijab Day
February 1st is World Hijab Day, a global initiative that fosters understanding and appreciation of religious expression and cultural diversity. The concept of hijab in Islam goes beyond the headscarf; it represents a broader philosophy of modesty and humility for both women and men. For women, it often involves covering everything except the face and hands, while for men, it typically means modest dress covering the lower body.
World Hijab Day was founded by Nazma Khan, a Bangladeshi-New Yorker, as a way to promote cross-cultural understanding. By encouraging women from all walks of life to wear the hijab for a day, the movement aims to demystify and celebrate a practice often misunderstood. Today, the event is observed in over 150 countries, with volunteers and ambassadors leading discussions, workshops, and events that highlight the beauty and significance of the hijab.
