Deaf Awareness Week
Deaf Awareness Week
Deaf Awareness Week, set up by the UK Council on Deafness, happens every year and is all about shining a light on the deaf community. The dates change a bit each year, but the focus stays the same: sharing the challenges and experiences of living with deafness, celebrating Deaf culture, and pushing for a more inclusive world.
Can you imagine a world where visual language takes centre stage over spoken words? It’s tricky. But joining the conversation helps knit the deaf and hearing worlds together. Deaf people face many challenges – from mental health issues to lack of accessibility – stuff that many of us don’t have on our radar. This week’s about recognising the challenges and richness of deafness, and doing our bit to make everyday life more inclusive for deaf and hard of hearing people.
