International Family Equality Day
International Family Equality Day
International Family Equality Day (IFED) is here! Falling annually on the first Sunday of May, it lands, this year, on the 5th and is a tip of the cap to the diversity of LGBTQ+ families everywhere. It’s about promoting acceptance, equality, and celebrating the kaleidoscopic diversity of families across our world. Because, y’know, ‘love makes a family’ – and that’s the motto of today!
Families come in all shapes and sizes. And today celebrates that in a heap of ways – from community picnics, to workshops, art exhibitions, or organised marches, aiming to raise awareness and support legal recognition for LGBTQ+ families. Online platforms and social media also play a mighty role, especially in regions where open celebration can be tricky. However you take part – even if it’s just raising the rainbow flag – showing support and allyship is what it’s all about.
