Nowruz

Nowruz

Spring into Nowruz! Celebrated on the vernal equinox, Nowruz marks the first day of spring and new year for over 300 million people. Its dates shift but it usually blooms into our calendars around 20th March. Rooted in ancient traditions, this festival symbolises renewal and change, and is celebrated in diverse regions including the Balkans, Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

Fun fact: In 2009, UNESCO recognised Nowruz for its cultural importance. Traditions vary: In Iran, people set up a ‘Haft-Seen’ table with items symbolising rebirth and joy. Some cultures even include bonfire jumping for purification! Celebrations are usually stuffed with music, dancing, and traditional foods – reflecting a fusion of Eastern and Western customs. Nowruz isn’t just a day on the calendar, it’s a multi-cultural dance of peace, nature, and shared human rhythms. Yep, our kind of festival!
