Nowruz

Nowruz

Spring into Nowruz! Celebrated on the vernal equinox, Nowruz marks the first day of spring and the new year for over 300 million people. While the date shifts slightly each year, it usually falls around this time in March. Rooted in ancient traditions, this vibrant festival symbolises renewal, change, and the arrival of new beginnings. It’s celebrated across diverse regions including the Balkans, Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

Fun fact: In 2009, UNESCO recognised Nowruz for its cultural importance. Traditions vary: In Iran, people set up a ‘Haft-Seen’ table with items symbolising rebirth and joy. Some cultures even include bonfire jumping for purification! Celebrations are usually stuffed with music, dancing, and traditional foods – reflecting a fusion of Eastern and Western customs. Nowruz isn’t just a day on the calendar, it’s a multi-cultural dance of peace, nature, and shared human rhythms. Yep, our kind of festival!
