Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji

The Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, honoured every June 16th, is a special day in India, particularly for Sikhs. It commemorates Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru, who sacrificed his life for his faith and principles. This day is marked with solemn remembrances and celebrations of his life. One ritual involves the reading of the Sikh holy scripture, the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, from start to finish, signifying respect and a deep connection with the Guru’s teachings. 

Special events today include gatherings at the Gurudwara Dera Sahib, the memorial site for Guru Arjan Dev Ji. This spot often becomes a hub for ceremonies on June 15th, leading up to the martyrdom day. Oh, and not forgetting the vibrant processions outside Gurdwaras which feature floats and a festive atmosphere that commemorates the Guru’s life and legacy, blending reverence with joy.
