Windrush Day (UK)
Windrush Day (UK)
Windrush Day, every June 22nd, is a tribute to the Caribbean pioneers who arrived on Britain’s shores and their lasting legacy in shaping the nation. After World War II, Britain desperately needed a boost to rebuild. Answering the call, nearly half a million souls from the Caribbean ventured to the UK. Windrush Day has now grown into a powerful testament to the resilience, culture, and spirit of the Caribbean community and their descendants.

Today is a story of hope and perseverance. Despite facing discrimination and exclusion, the Windrush generation laid the foundations for a diverse and inclusive Britain. They brought rich cultural traditions that’ve become an integral part of the British identity. Today’s events showcase the profound impact of the Caribbean community—through music, dance, art, and spirited discussions. It honours the past, celebrates the present, and looks forward to a future where diversity and unity are cherished.
