World Alzheimer’s Month
World Alzheimer’s Month
World Alzheimer’s Month, recognised every September, is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness and challenging stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Initiated by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) in 2012, this month-long event focuses on the issues faced by people affected by dementia. Alzheimer’s, a neurodegenerative disease, is the most common form of dementia and represents a growing challenge with an ageing global population. World Alzheimer’s Day, celebrated on September 21st, serves as a focal point for raising awareness and advocating for those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.
World Alzheimer’s Month provides an opportunity to break down the misconceptions and social stigma that often accompany dementia, leading to better understanding and support for those affected, including patients, caregivers, and families. Communities globally are encouraged to engage in activities that promote awareness, support inclusion, and demonstrate solidarity with those impacted by Alzheimer’s.
