World Bipolar Day
World Bipolar Day
World Bipolar Day is an international event observed annually on March 30th. It coincides with the birthday of Vincent van Gogh, who was posthumously diagnosed as likely having a bipolar condition. The initiative was launched by the International Society for Bipolar Disorders in line with the Asian Network of Bipolar Disorder and the International Bipolar Foundation. The goal is to hand out more information on bipolar disorders, improve sensitivity towards the illness and promote access to better mental health and wellness.
Mental health issues, like bipolar disorder, are often sorely misunderstood, leading to stigma, to discrimination and exclusion. World Bipolar Day is an opportunity to educate one another – be it at home, at work and in our communities. To challenge misconceptions, and highlight the contributions of those living with bipolar disorder, emphasising that mental health diversity is an integral part of human diversity.
