World Suicide Prevention Day
World Suicide Prevention Day
Every September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day, dedicated to raising awareness about suicide and promoting actions to prevent it. People around the globe unite in a shared commitment to address this sensitive and often stigmatised topic. It primarily aims to educate the public about the warning signs and risk factors associated with suicide but also to remember those who have lost their lives and to support those left behind.
Suicide is a significant, and in many cases wholly preventable, epidemic. In the UK and the Republic of Ireland more than 6800 people were lost to suicide in 2018. World suicide prevention day is about educating each other to spot the warning signs and intervene, to prevent any more victims taking their own life. Everyone faces mental health challenges, regardless of background, culture or identity. Together, we can save lives.
