Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week
Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week
Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week happens every year during the first full week after Valentine’s Day. It’s a time to shine a spotlight on aromanticism – a spectrum where people experience little or no romantic attraction, no matter their sexual orientation. It’s no coincidence that this week falls just after Valentine’s Day, when the world is all about romantic love. It’s a chance to remind everyone that success and happiness don’t have to be tied to romance – there’s so much more to life!
This week is a mash-up of activities and educational campaigns aimed at broadening our understanding and acceptance of aromantic people. It’s about respecting different experiences of love and attraction, and normalising the absence of romantic feelings. Spreading this message helps combat misconceptions about aromanticism, and promotes the message that all forms of emotional connections are equally valued. After all, doesn’t everyone have the right to feel seen and accepted, regardless of where they sit on the romantic or aromantic spectrum? Yup. We think so!
