International Day for Women and Girls in Science
International Day for Women and Girls in Science
Every February 11th, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science celebrates the amazing contributions women have made to science, and it’s a chance to highlight just how much more needs to be done for gender equality in the field. Women have always been at the forefront of groundbreaking discoveries, even when faced with obstacles and biases. This day is all about recognising their achievements and keeping the conversation alive about the challenges that still exist for women in science today.
Despite progress, women remain underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), often earning less and having fewer advancement opportunities than men. This gender gap exists globally, highlighting the need for better access to education and training for women, and supportive work environments that enable them to pursue scientific careers. The International Day of Women and Girls in Science thus plays a mighty role in advocating for these changes and inspiring the next generation of women in STEM.
