World Breastfeeding Week
World Breastfeeding Week
World Breastfeeding Week, observed annually from 1st to 7th August, focuses on the challenges mothers face while breastfeeding. Every year brings a new theme that tackles a different issue, such as making workplaces more breastfeeding-friendly – because let’s face it, you shouldn’t need superpowers to juggle breastfeeding and work. While the theme may change, the goal stays the same: to increase awareness and foster more support for breastfeeding in communities everywhere.
Breastfeeding might seem natural, but it’s tough, especially at the start. Many new mums feel stressed and guilty when they struggle with it. But it’s often due to a lack of support around them. Almost 2 out of 3 babies aren’t breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months, a rate that hasn’t budged in 20 years. This week is a call for better access to support, more rights for women to breastfeed anywhere, any time, and an understanding of the importance of breastfeeding for babies’ health.
