International Day of Action for Women’s Health
International Day of Action for Women’s Health
The International Day of Action for Women’s Health, every 28th May, emphasises the importance of women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights. The mission? To mobilise global attention towards issues like women’s autonomy, discrimination, and violence, especially critical in light of setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic. It advocates against the regression in women’s rights, highlighting the need for better education and awareness.
Keep an eye out for big themes like: access to healthcare, legal abortion, HIV/AIDS awareness, and combating violence against women. Currently, only 55% of women aged 15-49 have control over their sexual and reproductive decisions – spotlighting the urgent need to advocate for women’s bodily autonomy, which is essential for gender equality. In an era where women’s rights are frequently violated worldwide, this day emphasises the urgency of resisting any regression and advocating for sexual and reproductive justice.
