6 Well-being Gifts For Happier Minds

Yikes! Can you believe it’s almost that time of year again? Yup. The festive season is sneaking up on us faster than a reindeer on rocket fuel.

For me, last Christmas was all about those handmade gifts (I got heavily into crochet …what can I say?). Anyway, this year I’m embarking on a special mission: to pick out some of the most thoughtful Christmas gifts that prioritise our wellbeing – at home and at work. And guess what? I’m letting you in on my finds.

Whether you’re seeking a gift for someone battling stress or simply wish to emphasise mental health in your workplace, take a peek at these handpicked Christmas gift ideas, crafted to spread joy and calm.

1. A Sleep Hygiene Hamper

We all know what it’s like to work without a good night’s kip. Studies show that as well as having effects on our cognitive skills, like decision-making, attention and learning, a lack of sleep can also lead to stress and low moods.

One Christmas, my old work crew chipped in to get me some treats to improve my sleep hygiene while I was going through a particularly gnarly bout of stress-induced insomnia. It wasn’t a miracle cure by any means, but it was a much-needed cue to indulge in a little more self-care. It was filled with loads of gorgeous products, designed to support our sleep quality. Things like lavender tea, silky sleeping masks and soothing essential oils.

LUSH do some lovely sleepy gift boxes too – I gifted one to my mum last year and it was a big hit. Plus, they’re cruelty-free. Winner!

2. Wellness Journal

There’s no doubt that writing heals. Keeping a journal doesn’t just help cultivate awareness of our thoughts and emotions, but it can also help us feel more inspired, creative and even more motivated.

A journal is a really thoughtful gift idea. Whether it’s for a colleague or a loved one – plus there are many to choose from: dream journals, arty journals, gratitude journals. Papier does some stylish, simple options that I really like.

3. The Gift of Mindfulness

You can’t magically make other people’s challenges disappear. But you can give someone you care about less stress, better focus, and more happiness. And gifts don’t get much better than that!

Apps like Headspace and Calm offer various subscriptions, giving users access to hundreds of meditations on everything from stress, to focus, to compassion. As well as sleep sounds, music, and wind-down exercises to help put busy minds to bed. Trust me, the gift of sleep is more precious than gold in a world that never stops.

4. Sensory Rings

Do you know someone who struggles with anxiety or has difficulty concentrating? People who often feel anxious, find it hard to focus or are prone to panic attacks may feel the need to fidget with something in their hands to ease discomfort or keep their mind on track. This is where fidget or sensory rings can really help. These discreet little rings are designed to activate the nerve endings and pressure points in the fingers.

I haven’t used one myself but I have friends who wear them as a physical outlet for nervous energy. They can be twisted, rolled between the fingers, or worn. Tip: It’s worth bearing in mind that a good fidget ring should be made of a durable and lightweight metal – it should be comfy and not too tight or too loose. There are some lovely handmade options on Etsy – this one (pictured) is my favourite style.

5. Loop Ear Plugs

I’ve always found the hustle and bustle of an office environment distracting. Others who feel this way too may suffer from ‘misophonia’ which means that they might also be sensitive to other sounds – like someone breathing or eating loudly, or the noise of tapping keyboards. These sounds can make sufferers feel anxious, uncomfortable or even provoke feelings of anger and disgust. Not exactly conducive to concentration and productivity, hey?

Wearing earplugs can really help. I’ve recently started  using the Loop Experience ear plugs which combine a ‘patented acoustic channel and mesh’ to filter noise – up to 18 dB (SNR), keeping sound quality clear, just at a reduced volume. In other words, you’re still in the room but everything around you is dialled down a notch.

There are loads of other Loop options to choose from, depending on your needs: aiding sleep, boosting focus, protecting your ears at live music events or taking the edge off social situations. Take Loop’s handy quiz to find out which is the best match for you or the person you’re gifting to!

6. Anything From School Of Life

I can’t fault the School of Life. I just love their whole ethos. If you haven’t checked out their site, it’s definitely worth having a peruse. They’re devoted to “bringing calmself-understandingbetter relationships, deeper friendships, greater effectiveness at work and more fulfilment in your leisure time.” And we could all do with more of that, right?

Their products are quality-made and dedicated to developing emotional intelligence. From Teamworkgames that cultivate better office dynamics, to motivational cards, confidence prompts, and books to help us overcome failure.

I won’t lie: their range doesn’t come cheap. But every product is made with care, love and purpose. Go and have a little Christmas shop ( I b̶e̶t̶ hope you come away with a little treat for yourself!)
